JUST IN: new charges for Riad Salameh, Governor of Banque du Liban, Lebanon's central bank for 30 years, (from 1993 until he stepped down in July 2023).
Salameh publicly dismissed Bitcoin as "unregulated" and his central bank prohibited its use, while launching his own digital currency. (Sound familiar?)
He then presided over the collapse of the lira and the loss of ordinary people's bank deposits.
In January he was charged over $44.8 million allegedly embezzled from the central bank, he was arrested again on 1 August, and a judge added further charges yesterday(Daniel Batten)
