Another case of bad news not causing a drop! Yesterday's earnings report was strong, but the Neutron rocket's maiden flight got delayed. Logically, the stock should've been weak yesterday. Unexpectedly, after a big gap down last night, it rallied all the way back above $80. Does this remind anyone of another recent case where bad earnings news didn’t lead to a drop? Check it out here: https://((x.com))/qinbafrank/status/2085745455804150029?s=46.
Back to RKLB and the bad news not causing a drop—here’s my personal take on the possible reasons:
1) The previous drop from $150 to $60 already priced in a lot of the negatives.
2) Although the Neutron maiden flight got delayed, the market is still buying into the company’s performance. After all, their launch and systems business is super strong. Existing operations keep getting stronger, and their industry position continues to rise.
3) There’s also a chance the market is anticipating the completion of the Iridium Communications integration. We talked about this before here: https://((x.com))/qinbafrank/status/2071579763274289496?s=46. Iridium Communications is a cash cow with nearly $1 billion in revenue and over $100 million in net profit. Once RKLB completes the integration, their revenue and profit scale will double instantly, plus they’ll take over Iridium’s 2.5 million users. For comparison, SpaceX Starlink currently has 12 million users. RKLB will also gain direct access to a global satellite communication network, scarce L-band spectrum, and proven subscription-based income streams.
