[Temasek Launches New Investment in Samsung and SK Hynix, Marking Its First Entry into the Korean Stock Market] BlockBeats News, August 12: Temasek, one of Asia's largest sovereign wealth funds, is initiating a new round of investment in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. This marks Temasek's first foray into the Korean stock market. According to relevant government departments and institutions on August 12, Temasek recently decided to invest in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix and has reportedly been in contact with the Korean government to discuss the timing of the investment execution. It is reported that Temasek has opted to use internal personnel to directly manage the investments rather than delegating the task to external asset management firms. A financial authority official stated: "To my knowledge, after the government approved leveraged ETFs for individual stocks, the stock prices of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix experienced extreme fluctuations. Temasek has communicated with us regarding the timing of capital entry into the market." This marks Temasek's first investment in the Korean stock market. It is understood that Temasek believes the storage semiconductor sector within the artificial intelligence (AI) value chain is one of the most undervalued areas. An industry insider commented: "Temasek's investment style involves injecting substantial capital into market-dominant industries from a long-term perspective," adding, "Although the stock prices of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have already risen by over 880% from last year's lows, this move indicates Temasek's strong belief in further upside potential." Despite concerns over overheating leading to a cooling of AI investment enthusiasm, Temasek continues to increase its bets on the entire AI value chain. In the second quarter of this year, the institution concentrated its investments in areas such as semiconductors, data centers, cloud services, AI model developers, and software infrastructure. Through these strategic moves, Temasek plans to increase the proportion of AI-related assets in its overall portfolio from 6% to a maximum of 15% within the next five years. The institution views AI semiconductors as a long-term growth engine driving structural changes in the industry rather than a short-lived trend and plans to expand its investments accordingly. According to Temasek's 13F filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on August 7, as of the end of June, the institution held shares in NVIDIA and TSMC, as well as shares in ASML, the world's largest semiconductor lithography equipment company based in the Netherlands. Additionally, Temasek is a major institutional investor in generative AI developers such as OpenAI and Anthropic. Temasek is a state-owned investment company wholly owned by the Singapore Ministry of Finance, managing assets totaling 518 billion Singapore dollars (approximately 572 trillion Korean won) as of the end of March this year.
