I thought there’d be a good story—Trump pretends to smooth things over with Hormuz before Wednesday, pushes oil prices down, then drops a rate cut as a positive signal on Wednesday. And by the weekend, he’s back to stirring things up again. Everything he’s doing is just to lower oil prices. Iran, on the other hand, won’t budge without seeing real benefits. No matter how good the talks seem, they’ll claim it’s not going well and won’t let oil prices drop before negotiations are fully finalized. High oil prices are one of Iran’s bargaining chips. If they back down now and oil prices drop early, Trump can play both sides again. So, Iran has to maintain a tough stance until the moment the deal is reached. As for U.S. stocks, they’re already at high levels. If Wednesday’s data is good, the market might hang on a bit longer. Otherwise, a full-scale pullback lasting a few weeks could really happen.
