⚡️Vitalik @VitalikButerin has updated the ETH roadmap again, and compared to the 2023 version, there are three noticeable changes— 1⃣ First: Changes in priorities. The most obvious is that quantum security has been significantly moved up, shifting from a "disaster contingency" to an "architectural constraint." That’s why Vitalik keeps mentioning EIP-8288, aiming to unify CL, EL, and DL cryptography around a hash-centric approach: consensus signatures, data availability, and execution proofs should all be based on cryptographic foundations that are more friendly to STARKs and quantum computing. This is a completely different design aesthetic from before. 2⃣ Second: Some old directions have been downgraded or almost entirely replaced. For example, the priority of VDF has decreased, and many minor EVM improvements are no longer as important. A more typical example is the Verkle Tree, which previously consumed a lot of R&D resources. The roadmap has evolved from: Verkle → Unified Binary Tree → Partitioned Binary Tree (PBT) and continues to develop. 3⃣ Third, and what Vitalik himself considers the most noteworthy: a batch of things that didn’t even exist in 2023 are now core to the roadmap. These include: Strong privacy, radical post-quantum scalability, Lean Ethereum, AI-assisted formal verification, Blob/Gas Futures, Native Rollups, new ISA, and New State Types. This reflects Vitalik’s new scalability philosophy: Lean Ethereum + AI Formal Verification. The ultimate goal is: To make Ethereum small enough for humans to understand, large enough to support the global economy, and simple enough for mathematics to prove.
