[Germany Considers Nominating Central Bank Governor Nagel Joachim for ECB Presidency, Previously Called Bitcoin a 'Digital Tulip']
According to Crowdfund Insider, the German government is reportedly discussing whether to nominate the current Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel as the next President of the European Central Bank (ECB) in response to the possibility of current President Christine Lagarde stepping down early. Sources indicate that Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil is inclined to support Nagel, but Chancellor Friedrich Merz has yet to make a public statement. Nagel has served as the President of the Bundesbank since 2022 and has repeatedly criticized unbacked crypto assets, including Bitcoin, calling them 'digital tulips.' He opposes including Bitcoin in official foreign exchange reserves and advocates that reserves should meet standards of security, liquidity, and transparency.
