About Investing Do what Buffett says. Start buying S&P 500 index funds as early as possible, keep buying, and then leave them alone. Don’t keep messing with your portfolio just because there’s a war today, an interest rate cut tomorrow, or a market crash the day after. With enough time, compound interest will do most of the work for you. 2. About Career When you’re just starting out, don’t be in such a rush to jump to the next thing. For every job, stick with it a little longer than you think you can. Becky said there were many jobs she wanted to leave early on, but she often stayed an extra six months to a year. It was precisely during that extra time that she truly mastered her work, which kept opening doors to new opportunities. She never planned to end up in television, let alone where she is today. A lot of career opportunities aren’t planned—they grow out of doing the task at hand really well. 3. About Life Cherish every moment. Life is really short. Don’t keep thinking, “I’ll start living well once I’ve made enough money, once I’ve finished this busy period, once the kids grow up, or once I retire.” Many times, we think we’re working hard for the future, only to look back and realize that those ordinary days we overlooked were life itself. Investing takes time, careers take patience, but life is the one thing you can’t afford to wait on.
