[OpenAI Halts Astra Development Due to Concerns Over Critical Cyberattack Capabilities]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow on August 8, Axios reported that OpenAI, after conducting an internal evaluation of its upcoming AI model Astra, stated that it could not rule out the model possessing 'critical' cyber capabilities. OpenAI announced that before Astra's official release, it would expand testing and security measures for the model and slow down its development process in accordance with the company's 'Preparedness Framework' first introduced in 2023, until appropriate safety protections are established. OpenAI also clarified that Astra was not involved in the recent Hugging Face vulnerability attack incident. The report noted that this event might become the first case of a cutting-edge AI lab proactively slowing down its model development due to rapid advancements in cybersecurity capabilities.
