Trump: We absolutely can't let China win in Crypto and AI!
In the past, Washington's biggest worry was: Will Bitcoin weaken the U.S. dollar?
Now, Trump has given a completely opposite answer:
People are starting to use Bitcoin for payments, and this actually reduces pressure on the dollar—it's a good thing for the U.S.
Plus, he's framing Crypto and AI within the context of national competition:
We can't let China take over Crypto, and we can't let China win in AI.
The truly important part of this statement is that the U.S. government's narrative around Crypto is shifting from financial regulation to national competitiveness.
According to Trump's logic, Bitcoin doesn't necessarily have to replace the dollar.
It can handle part of the global payment, value storage, and digital asset demand, easing the burden on the dollar.
Meanwhile, as long as the U.S. continues to dominate stablecoins, trading platforms, custody, ETFs, capital markets, and regulatory frameworks, it can still benefit from the entire Crypto ecosystem.
So what the U.S. is really worried about is that if Bitcoin grows too big, trading, settlement, stablecoins, wallets, and infrastructure could all end up controlled by China or other countries.
This is also why Trump is increasingly talking about Crypto + AI together.
AI is about competing for the next generation of productivity.
Crypto is about competing for the next generation of financial infrastructure.
Whoever controls models, computing power, and data might control the future information economy;
Whoever controls stablecoins, on-chain payments, trading platforms, and regulatory standards might control the future digital capital flow.
At the same time, the U.S.'s most important crypto market structure bill, the 'CLARITY Act,' is still stuck in the Senate, with voting postponed until after the August recess.
Trump has already defined Crypto as a matter of national strategic competition, but Congress is still debating how to set the rules.
