No Elizabeth Warren is not a champion of the downtrodden against the power of "Big Crypto" Let the record remind us that she is a big-bank funded politician who launched an "anti-crypto army" (a move which contributed to the Democrat party losing the last election and prompting the need for entire Bitcoin and crypto community to get political in the first place to stop the debanking, the vilification and the misinformation). Here are the receipts of Warren's past statements about Bitcoin mining alone For context, Bitcoin mining has been found in multiple peer reviewed studies to help stabilize grids, accelerate green energy adoption, monetize stranded renewable energy. Other independent studies have showed Bitcoin mining to reduce community power prices, safeguard against instability caused by AI, and mitigate environmentally harmful methane emissions. She also on multiple occasions mischaracterized Bitcoin's demand response (which IEA has said as critical to the green energy transition) as a habit for bitcoin mining companies to "collect subsidies ...[to] shut off their mining operations and do nothing." She then used these factual errors and mischaracterizations to request commercially sensitive information from miners with a "comply of be fined $10,000/day" notice, which required a court injunction to block There has been no retraction, no apology, no accountabilty for the multiple statements that have been shown to be factulaly inaccurate. Warren on Bitcoin mining: "Bitcoin mining consumes roughly the same amount of electricity as Washington state—putting pressure on our power grids and worsening the #ClimateCrisis." (statement, 27 Jan 2022) "Not to mention the harmful impacts cryptomining has on local environments and electricity prices." (same statement) "The results of our investigation… are disturbing… revealing that cryptominers are large energy users that account for a significant – and rapidly growing – amount of carbon emissions." (same hearing) "Foreign-owned cryptomining facilities' connection to our energy grid could leave the U.S. vulnerable to targeted blackouts and cyber attacks." (same hearing) "A Chinese investor was able to secretly buy a $6 million cryptomine in Texas." (same hearing) Letters she co-signed, so attribute to the lawmakers rather than to her "Bitcoin miners make money from mining that produces major strains on the electric grid: and during peak demand when the profitability of continuing to mine decreases, they then collect subsidies in the form of demand response payments when they shut off their mining operations and do nothing." The statement-set on her trackrecord of attacking and mischaracterizing Bitcoin generally would require an essay. In short, this is not the actions of someone who cares about fair regulation, this is the musings of someone who has staked her reputation on maligning and attacking an entire industry sector, and who has made her "anti crypto army" campaign (her words, not mine) transparent for many years.(Daniel Batten)
