[NVIDIA Considers Reducing Rubin Ultra GPU Configuration to Alleviate HBM Supply Shortages]
According to The Information, NVIDIA is considering adjusting the design of its next-generation Rubin Ultra GPU by reducing the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) configuration to address the tight supply of advanced HBM chips. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that NVIDIA has tested at least three different versions of the Rubin Ultra GPU in recent weeks, some of which feature memory capacities lower than the company's previously announced plans.
The primary reason NVIDIA is considering releasing a lower-memory version is the potential inability of the market to secure a sufficient quantity of advanced HBM chips. HBM is a critical component of AI accelerators, offering higher data transfer speeds and serving as an essential foundation for training and inference of large AI models. With the rapid growth in demand for AI computing power, HBM supply has become one of the key factors limiting the production capacity of high-end AI chips.
