We have an AI privacy problem. GPT shared personalized information about me with a brand to ad-target me. Here is what happened. I searched a product in GPT once using its in app browser. No login or account creation. Then closed the chat. Since then I am being targeted in social media by that brand. But that has always been the practice via cookies. What makes it exponentially worse, the brand is emailing me at my work email address. To be clear my GPT account is on a personal email not work. So GPT has made an effort to collect a larger set of datapoints about me including previously unknown email addresses, and shared it with the brand without my knowledge. This is terrible practice. And will only make the case for local AI. There is no reason to believe these products won’t build a hyper personalized profile of you to share for marketing and beyond.(Sina 🗝️⚡ BI Report)
