[Over $30 Million Lost in Cryptocurrency Violent Robberies in the First Half of 2026, France Becomes the Hardest Hit Region]
According to The Block, data from Chainalysis shows that losses from cryptocurrency violent robberies exceeded $30 million in the first half of 2026, with the annual total potentially surpassing the 2025 peak of $58 million. France recorded 30 publicly reported cases in the first half of 2026, while the French Minister of the Interior stated that the actual number of cases exceeded 70. Chainalysis attributed this to the 2024 data leak from the French tax department, which caused the frequency of attacks to rise from a monthly average of 1.9 in 2025 to a monthly average of 4.6 in the first half of 2026. In the French cases, attacks targeting family members accounted for over 40%, while home invasions rose to 37%. Stolen funds were laundered through decentralized exchanges and cross-chain bridges, with some linked to cartel money laundering and terrorist financing channels.
