Not surprised at all to see the news about Nikita stepping down as the product lead today. From the very beginning, his tenure has been full of controversy, especially with his constant jabs at the crypto industry for no apparent reason. Like, if he had nothing to do with the industry, fine, but his resume (at the time) literally listed him as an advisor for Solana. Ever since Nikita took over the product, X has been turning more and more into a content dump for platforms like Douyin, TikTok, and Xiaohongshu. I get that X needs traffic, but this whole thing where people auto-upload dozens or even hundreds of posts daily, just hoping one of them goes viral so they can rake in big paychecks? Yeah, that's old news in the Chinese internet scene. The downsides are super obvious too—once the subsidies drop or the financial incentives shrink, the traffic will nosedive. X should really take some notes from YouTube on this. Sure, incentivizing early traffic with rewards works, but product positioning matters way more. What exactly is X trying to be? Can it even be summed up in one sentence? No idea what the new product lead will cook up next, but let's hope it’s not another mess.
