[SoftBank Quarterly Profit Exceeds Expectations, Chip Investment Gains Boost Performance]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on August 6, Japan's SoftBank Group announced a quarterly net profit decline smaller than expected, primarily driven by gains in its chip-related investment portfolio. Meanwhile, the company is still awaiting further returns from its investment in OpenAI. The Tokyo-based tech investment firm reported a first-quarter net profit drop of 18% to 347.3 billion yen (approximately $2.2 billion), as unrealized gains from its investments in chip manufacturers offset the impact of declining valuations of startups. In comparison, the market had anticipated the company's net profit to be around 166 billion yen. (Jin10)
