[JPMorgan: Retail Investors May Gain Influence in Tech Stock Trading After Brutal Sell-Off]
BlockBeats News, August 6 – According to JPMorgan's preliminary assessment of long/short hedge funds in the technology, media, and telecom sectors, tech stock trading may be becoming more reliant on retail investors following the brutal sell-off in July, potentially increasing volatility. JPMorgan strategist Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou and others noted that data from Pivotal Path shows such hedge funds suffered losses exceeding 10% in July. This pullback does not yet account for the Situational Awareness fund, which was forced to sell most of its public equity portfolio last week after severe sell-offs in semiconductor and tech stocks. Panigirtzoglou believes this indicates that other long/short hedge funds focused on tech stocks may also have faced forced liquidations in semiconductor and memory chip stocks.
