Fed governor Lisa Cook says she voted to hold rates steady last week because she sees potential for a reduction in price pressures from tariffs, the war, and the AI buildout. But she suggests the bar to hike could be low with the following phrase: "If I do not see signs of continued disinflation soon, I am prepared to act." Given several years of above-target inflation, "while we might be able to afford to wait for longer in a different environment, we do not have that luxury in this one." https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/speech/cook20260805a.htm(Nick Timiraos)
