[AI Stock Sell-Off Shocks Market, Hedge Funds Balyasny and Verition Both Suffer Losses Last Month]
According to Bloomberg, multi-strategy hedge funds Balyasny Asset Management and Verition Fund Management both recorded losses last month as the sell-off in artificial intelligence concept stocks impacted the market, causing setbacks for numerous hedge funds. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Balyasny fell 1.5% in July, narrowing its cumulative return for the first seven months of the year to 1.2%. Another source stated that Verition dropped 1.1%, bringing its year-to-date cumulative return down to 4.5%. Due to the sensitivity of performance data, the sources requested anonymity. Meanwhile, some hedge funds managed to profit amidst the market's sharp fluctuations. Citadel's flagship fund Wellington rose 5.9% in July, benefiting from taking over Situational Awareness positions.
