[U.S. Optical Communication Sector Extends Yesterday's Gains, AAOI and COHR Rise Over 5%]
BlockBeats News, August 5, according to BIT (bit.com) market data, the U.S. optical communication sector extended yesterday's gains, with the following movements:
- Pure Photonics ETF FOTO rose 2.2%;
- Corning (GLW) rose 0.52%;
- Marvell Technology (MRVL) rose 0.5%;
- AAOI (Applied Optoelectronics) rose 5.1%. The company is a manufacturer of high-speed optical modules (800G/1.6T) focused on AI data center transceivers;
- LITE (Lumentum Holdings) rose 2.56%. The company is a core supplier of optical communication lasers and optical modules, and a key player in AI data centers;
- COHR (Coherent Corp) rose 5.86%. The company is a leader in lasers, optical components, and photonics solutions, covering data center and industrial sectors;
- CIEN (Ciena Corporation) rose 2.49%. The company produces high-speed SerDes and connectivity chips, focusing on low-power interconnects for AI data centers.
Yesterday, it was reported that the Trump administration is drafting a ban on importing new data center components from China. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) plans to impose import restrictions on Chinese optical transceivers (used for high-speed fiber optic data transmission in data centers) and aims to announce the effective date within this year.
If the U.S. bans the import of new Chinese data center equipment, it could increase costs for U.S. cloud computing companies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) AMZN.O, forcing them to turn to other suppliers, such as U.S.-based Coherent COHR.N and Lumentum LITE.O.
