The incident dates back to December 2024, when Halem and three accomplices broke into an apartment in Los Angeles' Koreatown, kidnapping and threatening a 17-year-old victim to hand over a hard drive containing approximately $350,000 worth of Bitcoin. The court rejected his request for a retrial, with the judge stating that his actions were driven by "pure greed." Additionally, Halem is currently facing pending charges for insurance fraud and another cryptocurrency-related robbery case.
