BlockBeats news, on August 4, according to a document released by the European Commission, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund—Public Investment Fund (PIF)—along with an investor consortium has received EU approval under the EU's foreign subsidy regulations to acquire global gaming giant Electronic Arts (EA) for $55 billion.
In another regulatory filing submitted last Thursday, EA confirmed that as of July 30, it had obtained all necessary regulatory approvals and expects the transaction to be completed on August 4.
In September 2025, EA announced that it had reached a definitive agreement to be acquired in an all-cash transaction by an investor consortium consisting of PIF, Silver Lake Capital, and Affinity Partners, valuing the company at approximately $55 billion.
Turqi Alnowaiser, Vice President and Head of International Investments at PIF, stated that PIF holds a unique position in the global gaming and esports sector and is committed to building and supporting an ecosystem that connects players, developers, and IP creators.
EA's announcement described the transaction as "the largest all-cash privatization acquisition in history."
The buyers in this deal include Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, U.S.-based Silver Lake Capital, and Affinity Partners. Among them, Affinity Partners is an investment firm founded in 2021 by Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former U.S. President Donald Trump, which has previously received substantial funding from Saudi Arabia. Silver Lake Capital is an investment firm focused on the technology sector.
As a result, this acquisition of EA is almost entirely driven by Saudi capital.
