[U.S. Senator Proposes Legislation to Halt Trump's Media and Technology Company from Selling Presidential 'Real-Time Alert Rights']
According to NBC, U.S. Democratic Senator Alex Padilla plans to introduce a new bill that would prohibit the president from providing users with early access to public statements or social media posts through paid services. The bill targets a recent paid service launched by Trump's Media and Technology Company. This service allows users to receive real-time alerts for content posted by Trump and others on social platforms, some of which may involve information that impacts financial markets. Alex Padilla stated that public statements from government officials should not become a 'pre-trading advantage' sold to specific paying users. He believes that if market participants can pay for faster notifications of presidential statements, it could create an unfair information gap. Currently, Trump's Media and Technology Company has not responded to the legislative proposal.
