Analysis: U.S. July PMI Data Remains Stable, But Report Reveals Warning Signs
PANews|Aug 03, 2026 13:55
The U.S. July S&P Global Manufacturing PMI final reading was 53.9, expected 53.8, previous 53.8. Chris Williamson, Chief Business Economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence, stated: "Although the PMI figures released for July in the U.S. remained stable, the survey data reveals some warning signs regarding the future growth trajectory. The production growth rate in July slowed significantly, which is linked to the third consecutive month of weak new business growth, reflecting a reduction in inventory buildup following the unusually strong precautionary stockpiling in the second quarter.
Additionally, intensified supply chain delays, declining exports, and increased customer resistance to high prices have added further pressure. While raw material cost inflation has slightly eased, inflationary pressures remain elevated due to persistently high energy prices and tariffs."
