These days, even cold wallets aren’t safe?
Hardware wallet Coldcard faced several attacks: a total of 1,367 BTC stolen (around $88.6M) across 4,585 addresses.
The issue was a flaw in the random number generator in the 2021 firmware, making the seed predictable.
What annoys me most about hardware wallets is their marketing: equating offline with safety, selling a piece of plastic at a faith-based price. Being offline only prevents one type of theft—online hacks—but doesn’t fix the problem of manufacturers writing bad code.
Back in the DeFi days, @杰尼君 bought a few cold wallets, but now they’re just collecting dust in a drawer. Most of my assets are still stored on exchanges.
Honestly, exchanges are safer than 90% of cold wallets these days.
