Coldcard Hardware Wallet Vulnerability Incident Continues to Escalate, Official Response Faces Scrutiny Coinkite has destroyed all inventory devices with the problematic firmware and suspended shipments. They’ve released a firmware patch and advised affected users to temporarily switch to products from other manufacturers like Ledger and Trezor. Official statement: The patch can only protect new seeds and cannot fix old seeds. Users must generate new seeds and transfer their funds. Affected devices should not be discarded, as they might be key evidence for recovering funds. Community reactions are divided: some support the team for their swift response; But others question, 'Why destroy the hardware instead of just upgrading the firmware?' Coldcard responded, 'Once sealed and shipped, upgrades are no longer possible. Destruction is the only safe option.' However, many users remain unconvinced. Additionally, some users noticed that the homepage still features a comparison chart claiming their product is safer than Trezor and Ledger, which has been called ironic. The core issue of whether users’ funds can be recovered remains unanswered by Coinkite.
