According to Hong Kong media outlet Oriental Daily, statistics from Hong Kong law enforcement show that between July 24 and July 30, a total of 25 investment scam cases involving online romance were reported, with total losses nearing HK$70 million. Among them, a major online romance investment scam involved a 50-year-old insurance professional who was deceived by her online romance partner, claiming to be a 'car trader,' into investing in cryptocurrency, ultimately losing over HK$26 million.
Police remind investors to be cautious of behaviors where investment projects are recommended after establishing relationships through social platforms, especially those involving cryptocurrency, promises of high returns, or requiring transactions through unfamiliar platforms. Do not let emotions or trust compromise financial security measures.
