🚨 BREAKING: Bitcoin just recorded its lowest positive-to-negative commentary ratio across X, Reddit, Telegram, and other platforms since Santiment’s modern social tracking began. The Coldcard firmware exploit has shaken traders because it hits self-custody, the place many believed was crypto’s safest final line of defense.
🔐 By magnitude, larger crypto disasters have happened before, such as the FTX and Mt. Gox collapse, and COVID-19 Black Thursday. But this one feels different to retail traders because it is sparking debates about the security of cold wallets, in general. Not the consistently more criticized exchanges, bridges, or leveraged platforms.
📉 Fear is now louder than greed by a historic margin, with just 0.58 bullish comment for every 1.00 bearish comment related to Bitcoin. Though there is only a one day sample size thus far, this panic reading is larger than the peak war fears earlier this year, as well as the other aforementioned events from crypto’s past.
🙏 We sympathize with all who have been financially or emotionally impacted by this unfortunate event, and will continue to cover the on-chain and social impact as more details emerge. Bitcoin and altcoin transactions can and will continue, and trust will (as always) eventually be restored.
