eCash fork—what’s most interesting isn’t the 1:1 airdrop of ECX to BTC holders.
It’s that on the day of the fork, 7 sidechains launched simultaneously.
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a BTC project launch 7 sidechains at once.
It’s kind of like taking all the things Bitcoin has debated for years but never dared to touch on the mainnet, and throwing them onto sidechains for real-world testing.
For example, there’s a privacy sidechain similar to Zcash, making coins more untraceable and fungible.
If this were implemented on BTC L1, it would cause an uproar, but on sidechains, it makes perfect sense.
You can use it if you want, and if you don’t, it doesn’t affect the mainnet.
It’s a bit like the L2 solutions ETH has been rolling out.
And then there’s Truthcoin.
A decentralized prediction market that ultimately settles within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
This is the first time I’ve seen a prediction market settle on BTC.
Prediction markets have been a hot topic for years, but the biggest issues have always been settlement trust and the underlying assets.
If these could run on BTC ecosystem sidechains, the narrative would be pretty compelling.
I don’t think eCash is trying to pitch itself as just another new chain.
It feels more like it’s answering an old question:
If Bitcoin doesn’t want to change, can we put high-throughput payments, privacy, identity, asset issuance, prediction markets, DEXs, quantum resistance, and all that stuff onto sidechains instead?
The mainnet stays stable, and the sidechains handle the experimentation.
Not sure if this narrative can reach the level of ETH L2, but if it does, the crypto space will have a fresh story to play with.
