According to a report by Yonhap News TV, South Korea's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Choo Kyung-ho, stated that the country's crypto asset taxation will be implemented as planned starting in 2027, following the end of the current postponement at the end of this year. The government will continue to evaluate and refine relevant regulations during the system's operation. This marks the first time Choo Kyung-ho has publicly confirmed the scheduled start of crypto asset taxation.
The report noted that the current plan in South Korea does not allow investors to carry forward crypto asset losses to offset gains in subsequent years, raising concerns about domestic investors facing unfavorable treatment. Some investors may turn to overseas exchanges, potentially leading to a decline in trading volume and competitiveness in South Korea's local market.
