wonderful ❗ US erupts' AI civil war ', tech giants split into two factions, Musk stands on?
Silicon Valley is staging an annual drama called 'AI Civil War'.
The thing is, OpenAI and Anthropic recently did something that caused the entire Silicon Valley to explode. They secretly went to Washington to lobby, demanding that the US government restrict China's open source AI models. Reason: Unsafe, dangerous, Chinese AI models are 'stealing' from them.
Simply put, we can't defeat you. Can you help us lift the table.
What was the result? Other Silicon Valley giants have turned their backs directly.
NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun posted his first tweet on X, stating that "the world needs both cutting-edge closed source models and cutting-edge open models. Nine minutes later, Microsoft CEO Nadella followed suit: 'Open source is crucial for a healthy AI ecosystem'.
Then Meta's Zuckerberg, Tesla's Musk, and Google's Pichai all jumped out. Zuckerberg directly criticized the closed source model, stating that it would lead to concentration of power and stifle innovation. Musk was even more decisive, forwarding Huang Renxun's post and saying, "You're right, I fully support it
Where is Musk standing? Stand on the side of open source.
The boss of X platform openly confronts OpenAI. Looking at the screenshot of Musk's reply below, this scene is too beautiful for me to watch.
25 technology companies jointly signed an open letter supporting open source. By July 26th, there were nearly 70 signing companies. Nearly 200 Silicon Valley startups have also jointly urged the government not to restrict China's open-source models.
OpenAI and Anthropic have become isolated.
Even OpenAI secretly added their name to the joint letter in the end. After hesitating for a day, I quietly made up for it before the closing. Signing is equivalent to slapping oneself in the face, not signing is equivalent to being isolated by the entire Silicon Valley.
What is the most ironic aspect of the whole thing?
OpenAI and Anthropic's lobbying spending in Washington doubled to $2.22 million in the first half of 2026, while the other nearly tripled to $3.53 million. Spending so much money just to shut out Chinese AI.
What was the result? When Hugging Face was attacked by OpenAI's own model, it was only prevented by the open-source model of China's Zhipu AI.
So is the United States going to replicate the way it encircles Huawei and encircles Kimi?
OpenAI and Anthropic privately lobbied the White House to shut out Chinese open-source models. On the other hand, Huang Renxun, Musk, and Zuckerberg collectively support open source. The entire Silicon Valley is completely divided.
OpenAI wanted to flip the table, but found out that he was the one who was isolated.
Musk's website is open source, Huang Renxun's website is open source, Zuckerberg's website is open source, and Nadella's website is open source.
Who is blocking the source? OpenAI, Anthropic, and... it seems like they're gone.
The outcome of this' AI Civil War 'is already clear: those who want to shut down are locked out of the door themselves.
The enemy of American AI has never been China's open-source models.
It's arrogance, it's fear, it's the powerless rage of wanting to lift the table if you can't beat it.
We are happy to see an AI civil war in the United States, the more chaotic the better! Hahaha
Hey guys, what do you think?
