I had a similar experience with my first big FTX run in the Spring of 2021.
Ran up an account with $30K in it to $12.5M in two and a half weeks.
It's easy to say "why didn't you just walk away", but at the point where you've already done a 400x+ in that short of a time window, you start to think "well, what's another 10x from here?"
And then, when you are down 80-90% and you're sitting in the low millions, you really do think "well, there's no way the market keeps moving against me like this, right? things have to turn back around!"
And they eventually did. Right after I got wiped out.
Part of it can be attributed toward the social side of sharing positions and sharing your journey with others along the way.
The other part is how difficult it is to grasp the reality of the situation, because if this guy is anything like where I was, he's probably left most of the chips on the table.
He hasn't experienced how life changing that money can be.
Best bit of advice to him would be to take what's left, cash out and take a few weeks or months and just completely unplug from the game and reset.
Then put a *portion* back in and leave the rest out and change your life with it.
The biggest issue most people struggle with in this situation is making decisions with what they *had*, rather than focusing on optimizing their strategy for what they have now.(K A L E O)
