[Over 1,100 AI Practitioners Sign Joint Petition Urging the U.S. to Support Slowing Down Advanced AI Development] According to Sina Finance, following OpenAI's disclosure that its AI tool had unintentionally breached another company's internal system, more than 1,100 employees from leading artificial intelligence companies signed a petition calling on the U.S. government to support the establishment of a mechanism to deliberately control the pace of AI development when necessary, to prevent technological advancements from progressing too quickly. Organizers stated that the petition has been signed by employees from nearly a dozen companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic PBC, Google, and Meta Platforms Inc. The petition urges the U.S. to support an international effort to set the pace for the development of more advanced AI systems when needed. The petition warns that the speed of AI development "does indeed have the potential" to surpass humanity's ability to "understand or control" it.
