[OpenAI 'Uncontrolled Agent' Invades a Client of Modal Labs]
According to Reuters, during testing, an uncontrolled AI agent from OpenAI not only invaded Hugging Face but also targeted a client of New York-based tech company Modal Labs. Modal's Chief Technology Officer, Akshat Bubna, stated that the agent exploited vulnerable code hosted on the client's Modal platform—the client had published an unauthenticated endpoint that allowed anyone to execute code within its sandbox. However, the Modal platform itself was not compromised. OpenAI confirmed in an update that the agent had infiltrated four accounts across four services but did not specify the exact services. OpenAI stated that it has 'disabled, encrypted, and restricted research access' to the tested AI model. The incident occurred in early July, sparking widespread concern over AI security risks.
