AMD to Establish AI Research Center in South Korea to Build Open AI Infrastructure Ecosystem

According to a report by Jinse Finance on July 27, citing Yonhap News Agency, AMD (AMD.US) will establish an artificial intelligence research center in South Korea and build an open AI infrastructure ecosystem. On July 27, South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with AMD on July 23 in San Francisco regarding cooperation on the AI chip ecosystem. AMD plans to set up an AI Center of Excellence in South Korea to support technical collaboration, AI chip software development, computational technology validation, and joint research among South Korean enterprises, universities, and research institutions. It will also promote collaboration with local South Korean AI chip companies. The MOU includes the construction of heterogeneous AI computing infrastructure, connecting AMD's CPUs and GPUs with AI chips (NPUs) developed by South Korean companies that have advantages in inference technology. Both parties also plan to create an open AI computing ecosystem, encouraging South Korean companies to participate collectively. The scope will also cover areas such as memory, networking, servers, and software.
