[Preliminary Study by Cambridge: Bitcoin Mining Annual Electricity Consumption Rises to 190 TWh, Low-Carbon Energy Share Increases to 59.4%]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on July 26, TheEnergyMag revealed that preliminary data disclosed by Alexander Neumueller, head of research at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF), during the Energy Investors Forum indicates that from June 2024 to December 2025, the annualized electricity consumption of Bitcoin mining will increase from 138 TWh to approximately 190 TWh, a growth of about 38%. During the same period, greenhouse gas emissions will rise from approximately 40 million tons of CO2 equivalent to 48 million tons, an increase of about 20%. The share of low-carbon energy in the electricity mix for mining will grow from 52.4% to 59.4%, with hydropower surpassing natural gas to become the largest single energy source.
