According to a report by Caixin, the Hong Kong District Court sentenced Xiao Rui, the son of Xiao Jun, a former member of the Wuhan Supervisory Commission, to 6 years and 9 months in prison on July 23. Xiao Rui was previously convicted of four counts of money laundering involving over HK$64 million through underground banks and one count of using a false document copy to apply for Hong Kong residency.
During the trial, Xiao Rui claimed that the funds in question came from his mother’s business earnings and his income from selling Bitcoin. However, the court pointed out that his mother had long worked as a nurse and clerical staff at a hospital, and Xiao Rui was unable to provide records such as Bitcoin transaction dates, IDs, or wallet addresses. As a result, the court did not accept his explanation. https://(wublock123.com)/news/wuhan-supervisory-committee-son-money-laundering-hk-64m-sentence-6y9m-65299
