People used to worry about insider trading in prediction markets:
Someone knew the answer in advance and placed bets accordingly.
Now an even crazier version has emerged—
The temperature sensor at Paris airport suddenly showed abnormal heating, conveniently helping a few Polymarket weather bets make money. French authorities have started an investigation, suspecting the sensor might have been tampered with.
The rumored 'hairdryer on-site photo' isn’t solid evidence, but this story is already wild enough:
Before, it was 'I' knowing the answer in advance.
Now, it’s 'I' not knowing the answer, but 'I' can go and change the answer.
Prediction markets were originally meant to use money to predict reality, but in the end, they might turn into using money to influence reality.
Next time you see a trader with an unusually high win rate, don’t rush to study their model.
Check if they’ve already called a cab to the scene.
