Many people love collecting cards, but after a while, you’ll realize there’s a very real issue that always exists: just because something is valuable doesn’t mean it’s easy to trade. A high-graded card in the offline market requires finding someone who knows its worth when you want to sell it. You have to prove its authenticity, negotiate the price, and deal with shipping and trust issues. This is one of the reasons why the physical collectibles market has never fully unlocked its potential. Recently, I started following @renaissxyz, and what I find interesting about it isn’t just that they’re turning cards into NFTs, but that they’re trying to reimagine the entire way collectibles are traded. Renaiss’s logic is pretty straightforward: after physical cards are authenticated and stored, a corresponding asset certificate is created on-chain. What users are trading isn’t just an image, but the ownership of a real, physical collectible. This makes processes like buying, selling, transferring, and redeeming much more transparent. For example, if you want to sell a card, you don’t need to repeatedly prove where the card is or whether it’s authentic. When the NFT is transferred, the ownership of the physical asset behind it changes as well. And if you want to retrieve the physical card in the future, you can do so through a redemption mechanism for offline delivery. I think what Renaiss is truly addressing is the liquidity issue in the collectibles market. In the past, trading collectibles relied heavily on trust within niche communities. Now, with grading, custody, on-chain records, and market data, collectibles can have a more transparent foundation for transactions. Of course, the biggest challenge for RWA (Real-World Assets) will always be offline. Is the custody reliable? Is the asset’s condition authentic? Are market prices stable? These are all things that require long-term validation. But in terms of direction, what Renaiss is doing is meaningful: it’s not about creating new collectibles, but about giving dormant collectible value more opportunities to flow.
