About two months ago, there were already bits of news floating around that BitMEX was looking for a buyer. Some friends around me even considered it—the asking price wasn’t too high. But at this stage, running an exchange is just too tough, and BitMEX still has some unresolved issues. So shutting down was pretty much inevitable. BitMEX was once one of the largest bitcoin:native derivatives trading platforms in the world, and its founder, Arthur Hayes, was the creator of perpetual contracts in the crypto space. It had its glory days for sure—what a pity.
