Just bought a coin with a decent angle, but as soon as the internal market filled up and the external market opened, I got ds-ed instantly. Totally stunned, I decided to dig into it. After some research, I have to say @ponsdotfamily’s mechanism is a double-edged sword. It’s also the reason why many people can’t make money on it—because the sol launch whales have already taken over this space.
Here’s the analysis I referenced from this blogger:
You see a bunch of new coins on Pons, but behind the scenes, most of them are scooped up by pros running liquidity pools.
Stats show that one sol liquidity pool dev (he deployed less than 100 on sol) moved $2.4M to the rb chain and went crazy deploying over 10,000 coins using 4 addresses in just 7 days. His addresses occupy 4 of the top 5 spots in Pons launches.
Because of Pons’ design, 70% of transaction fees go to the dev, which leads to situations where the internal market fills up, and the dev instantly gets rewarded with tokens. Short-sighted devs will immediately dump, which is exactly why I got ds-ed today.
Pons was originally designed to reward devs with long-term vision, but short-term devs can still win by sheer volume. This is actually why many people can’t make money on Pons.
