[Analysis: U.S. stock short positions rise to high levels, S&P 500 short ratio approaches highest level since 2010]
Odaily Planet Daily News - The Kobeissi Letter posted on the X platform stating that data shows U.S. stock short positions continue to increase. Currently, the short position ratio of S&P 500 index constituent stocks has risen to approximately 3.7% of the float, approaching the highest level since 2010; the short position ratio of Russell 3000 index constituent stocks has risen to approximately 6.1%, similarly nearing historical highs. Both indicators have been steadily rising since early 2025. Additionally, the short position ratio for all listed stocks on the New York Stock Exchange reached 9.0% in late June, setting a historical record. In comparison, this indicator peaked at approximately 5.0% during the 2008 financial crisis and around 6.0% during the 2020 pandemic.
