[Citi: Still Bullish on South Korean Stock Market, KOSPI Target at 10,000 Points]
Odaily Planet Daily News – Citi analysts stated that the recent sharp correction in the South Korean stock market may be nearing its end. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) is expected to rebound in the future, maintaining a target price of 10,000 points, which represents an upside potential of over 50% from current levels.
The South Korean stock market has recently experienced significant adjustments, with the KOSPI dropping 28% cumulatively since its historical high on June 22, and falling an additional 4.5% on Monday. Citi believes this round of declines has been primarily driven by profit-taking and technical corrections in the market, particularly led by memory chip companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, rather than a deterioration in fundamentals.
Citi pointed out that South Korea's strong economic fundamentals, the AI semiconductor cycle, and a more favorable policy environment could serve as key factors driving a stock market rebound. Previously, South Korean retail investors had heavily purchased AI semiconductor-related leveraged ETFs. According to data from KB Financial Group, since the launch of single-stock leveraged ETFs on May 27, South Korean retail investors have cumulatively made net purchases of approximately 14 trillion won (around $9.4 billion), far exceeding the roughly 2 trillion won purchased by foreign investors. The recent market correction has put significant pressure on leveraged funds. (CNBC)
