The company has already shared related plans with key partners. Samsung Electronics plans to construct the Pyeongtaek P5 and P6 plants, one wafer plant in the Yongin Namsa semiconductor cluster, and one new wafer plant in Gwangju. SK Hynix is expected to build the Y1 and Y2 plants in the Yongin Wonsam semiconductor cluster and one new wafer plant in Gwangju. Together, the two companies will construct a total of seven new wafer plants between now and 2030. On the 29th of last month, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix announced a semiconductor equipment investment roadmap totaling 32 trillion KRW, excluding AI data center investment costs. Samsung Electronics has moved up the completion target for the Yongin wafer plant from 2047 to 2040, while SK Hynix has advanced its target from 2045 to 2033. Industry insiders in the semiconductor equipment sector revealed that Samsung Electronics recently inquired with its partners about their willingness to make additional investments in Gwangju, based on the premise of building a wafer plant there by 2030.
