[Hong Kong Stock Exchange Reportedly Considering Extending Trading Hours and Eliminating Lunch Break] According to a report by Golden Finance, sources reveal that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) is considering extending stock trading hours to align with most global markets. In recent weeks, HKEX has communicated the relevant plans to several major brokerage firms and trading institutions. Sources indicate that one proposed plan suggests advancing the stock market opening time by 30 minutes to 9:00 AM and eliminating the one-hour lunch break that starts at 12:00 PM. Additionally, sources state that HKEX is also exploring the possibility of introducing an evening trading session to overlap with the U.S. market's early trading hours, potentially scheduled from 8:00 PM to midnight. However, HKEX still plans to maintain the 4:00 PM market close to allow time for clearing and settlement processes. If the evening trading session is introduced, it would initially cover only a limited number of actively traded large-cap stocks. Another source mentioned that HKEX aims to use this initiative to boost the trading volume of Hong Kong-listed companies that simultaneously issue American Depositary Receipts (ADR) in the U.S. market.
