[Hackers Breach Kenyan President's Official Website, Demand 5 Bitcoin Ransom, Investigation Launched] Odaily Planet Daily News: The Kenyan government is investigating the hacking incident of President William Ruto's official website on July 18. Attackers briefly paralyzed president.go.ke and altered the homepage content, demanding a ransom of 5 Bitcoin, threatening to leak unspecified information by Saturday night if the demand is not met. Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Digital Economy, William Kabogo, stated that the government's ICT Authority immediately activated cybersecurity response protocols. To contain the incident and conduct forensic investigations, authorities have temporarily restricted public access to the portal. Currently, there is no evidence of unauthorized access to sensitive data, data breaches, or information loss, and government systems and digital services remain securely operational. It is reported that a Hong Kong-based technical team is collaborating with external technical partners to restore the webpage and identify the cause of the security breach. Earlier this year, within a three-month period, Kenya's critical infrastructure and government systems faced billions of cyber threats, prompting efforts to standardize nationwide cybercrime investigations.
