Holy crap, MetaMask (Consensys) actually got infiltrated by a North Korean hacker who worked on their core deposit and withdrawal code for a whole month. This hacker, with the GitHub ID 'imyugioh' and alias 'Tyler Knapp,' snuck into Consensys as a development consultant through a third-party outsourcing firm. From March 9 to April, he directly participated in the sensitive modules of the core wallet code responsible for cryptocurrency and fiat transfers. Although Chief Legal Officer Matt Corva urgently halted all product releases in April and revoked his access, confirming no asset losses or malicious code deployment, this wave of "undercover infiltration" has exposed catastrophic vulnerabilities in the industry. According to TRM Labs data, out of the $2.7 billion lost globally to crypto hacks in 2025, more than half were carried out by North Korean hackers (including the $1.5 billion stolen from Bybit). Recently, an Ethereum-funded project investigated 53 crypto projects and identified 100 suspected North Korean IT operatives posing as legitimate workers. Every project in the space must audit for potential North Korean hackers, especially exchanges—this is way too dangerous.
