(According to Bitcoin.com) U.S. bipartisan lawmakers have introduced a bill requiring online sports betting and prediction market platforms to implement facial scans for age verification before users log in or place bets. The proposal is led by Representative Josh Gottheimer and jointly initiated by eight bipartisan lawmakers. Gottheimer stated that the move aims to prevent minors from accessing betting platforms using accounts belonging to parents or close relatives. The technology estimates age by analyzing facial structures and patterns but does not store identity or biometric information. NIST evaluations show that the average error for six age estimation algorithms is 3.1 years, with error rates for female faces typically higher than those for male faces. The bill has yet to disclose the full text, enforcement agencies, penalty measures, or effective date, nor does it specify procedures for users to contest incorrect judgments.
