[U.S. Mortgage Rates Rise to 6.55%, Highest Since August 2025]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on July 17, U.S. mortgage rates rose to their highest level in nearly a year as tensions in the Middle East flared up again, reigniting concerns about inflation. Freddie Mac stated in a Thursday announcement that the average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 6.55%, up from 6.49% a week earlier. The latest rate marks the highest level since late August. Mortgage rates have risen for the second consecutive week, following the upward trend in U.S. Treasury yields. This comes after the breakdown of a temporary peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran, which pushed Treasury yields higher.
