[Buying the Dip During a Crash, Selling During a Rebound? Korean Retail Investors Miss Out on Samsung and SK Hynix's Surge] Odaily Planet Daily reports that after the South Korean stock market experienced a "Black Monday" followed by a rapid rebound, individual investors who had aggressively bought semiconductor leaders during the crash found themselves in a "buy the dip during a crash, sell during a rebound" scenario. According to data from the Korea Exchange, South Korean retail investors collectively purchased approximately 3.89 trillion KRW worth of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares, with net purchases of 1.10 trillion KRW for Samsung Electronics and 2.79 trillion KRW for SK Hynix. On the day of the crash, the stock prices of the two companies plummeted by 10.7% and 15.37%, respectively, as retail investors absorbed the shares sold off by foreign and institutional investors. However, as semiconductor stocks rebounded, retail investors quickly turned into sellers. Over the two days of the 14th and 15th, individual investors sold a total of 1.45 trillion KRW worth of Samsung Electronics shares and 3.70 trillion KRW worth of SK Hynix shares, with a combined net selling volume of 5.15 trillion KRW. Data shows that the estimated average purchase price of Samsung Electronics shares by retail investors on the 13th was around 261,700 KRW, while the average selling price over the following two days was approximately 259,400 KRW. For SK Hynix, the average purchase price was about 1,938,500 KRW, and the average selling price was around 1,849,300 KRW. Based on the shares purchased on the 13th, retail investors collectively incurred an estimated loss of 138.2 billion KRW. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics rose by approximately 9.8% over the 14th and 15th, and SK Hynix surged by about 12.8% during the same period. However, due to the significant amount of dip-buying funds being sold off early in the rebound on the 14th, retail investors missed out on fully benefiting from the subsequent rally. (Source: Etoday)
