[The U.S. Bill for War with Iran Could Reach $100 Billion]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, three U.S. officials and three individuals familiar with internal cost assessments revealed that the cost of a war with Iran could exceed the latest estimate of approximately $30 billion by threefold. Sources stated that after accounting for the repair of damaged U.S. military bases, replacement of destroyed aircraft, and full replenishment of depleted U.S. weaponry, the Department of Defense's internal estimate for the total cost of the war ranges from $80 billion to $100 billion.
Previously, due to the Pentagon's failure to anticipate the costs of this war and other military operations, including actions against drug cartels in the Western Hemisphere, a funding shortfall occurred. The Pentagon is seeking $68 billion in supplemental budget appropriations. If Congress approves, this funding would allow the Pentagon to maintain operations through the fall, at which point Congress will review a new $1.5 trillion budget proposal. As of now, lawmakers have shown little interest in approving this supplemental funding request. (Jin10)
